The 2011-2016 Outlook for Baby Toiletries in Greater China

The 2011-2016 Outlook for Baby Toiletries in Greater China Review

This econometric study covers the latent demand outlook for baby toiletries across the regions of Greater China, including provinces, autonomous regions (Guangxi, Nei Mongol, Ningxia, Xinjiang, Xizang - Tibet), municipalities (Beijing, Chongqing, Shanghai, and Tianjin), special administrative regions (Hong Kong and Macau), and Taiwan (all hereafter referred to as "regions"). Latent demand (in millions of U.S. dollars), or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) estimates are given across some 1,100 cities in Greater China. For each major city in question, the percent share the city is of the region and of Greater China is reported. Each major city is defined as an area of "economic population", as opposed to the demographic population within a legal geographic boundary. For many cities, the economic population is much larger that the population within the city limits; this is especially true for the cities of the Western regions. For the coastal regions, cities which are close to other major cities or which represent, by themselves, a high percent of the regional population, actual city-level population is closer to the economic population (e.g. in Beijing). Based on this "economic" definition of population, comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a city's marketing and distribution value vis-a-vis others. This exercise is quite useful for persons setting up distribution centers or sales force strategies. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each region and city of influence, latent demand estimates are created for baby toiletries. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products Read more...

The 2011-2016 Outlook for Baby Toiletries in Japan

The 2011-2016 Outlook for Baby Toiletries in Japan Review

This econometric study covers the latent demand outlook for baby toiletries across the prefectures and cities of Japan. Latent demand (in millions of U.S. dollars), or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) estimates are given across some 1,000 cities in Japan. For each city in question, the percent share the city is of it's prefecture and of Japan is reported. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a city vis-a-vis others. This statistical approach can prove very useful to distribution and/or sales force strategies. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each prefecture and city, latent demand estimates are created for baby toiletries. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved.

This study does not report actual sales data (which are simply unavailable, in a comparable or consistent manner in virtually all of the cities in Japan). This study gives, however, my estimates for the latent demand, or the P.I.E., for baby toiletries in Japan. It also shows how the P.I.E. is divided and concentrated across the cities and regional markets of Japan. For each prefecture, I also show my estimates of how the P.I.E. grows over time. In order to make these estimates, a multi-stage methodology was employed that is often taught in courses on strategic planning at graduate schools of business. Read more...

The 2009 Report on Cosmetics and Toiletries: World Market Segmentation by City

The 2009 Report on Cosmetics and Toiletries: World Market Segmentation by City Review

This report was created for global strategic planners who cannot be content with traditional methods of segmenting world markets. With the advent of a "borderless world", cities become a more important criteria in prioritizing markets, as opposed to regions, continents, or countries. This report covers the top 2000 cities in over 200 countries. It does so by reporting the estimated market size (in terms of latent demand) for each major city of the world. It then ranks these cities and reports them in terms of their size as a percent of the country where they are located, their geographic region (e.g. Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, North America, Latin America), and the total world market.

In performing various economic analyses for its clients, I have been occasionally asked to investigate the market potential for various products and services across cities. The purpose of the studies is to understand the density of demand within a country and the extent to which a city might be used as a point of distribution within its region. From an economic perspective, however, a city does not represent a population within rigid geographical boundaries. To an economist or strategic planner, a city represents an area of dominant influence over markets in adjacent areas. This influence varies from one industry to another, but also from one period of time to another.

In what follows, I summarize the economic potential for the world's major cities for "cosmetics and toiletries" for the year 2009. The goal of this report is to report my findings on the real economic potential, or what an economist calls the latent demand, represented by a city when defined as an area of dominant influence. The reader needs to realize that latent demand may or may not represent real sales. Read more...

Men's Cosmetics and Toiletries in Taiwan: A Strategic Reference, 2006

Men's Cosmetics and Toiletries in Taiwan: A Strategic Reference, 2006 Review

The primary audience for this report is managers involved with the highest levels of the strategic planning process and consultants who help their clients with this task. The user will not only benefit from the hundreds of hours that went into the methodology and its application, but also from its alternative perspective on strategic planning relating to men’s cosmetics and toiletries in Taiwan. As the editor of this report, I am drawing on a methodology developed at INSEAD, an international business school (www.insead.edu). For any given industry or sector, including men’s cosmetics and toiletries, the methodology decomposes a country’s strategic potential along four key dimensions: (1) latent demand, (2) micro-accessibility, (3) proxy operating pro-forma financials, and (4) macro-accessibility. A country may have very high latent demand, yet have low accessibility, making it a less attractive market than many smaller potential countries having higher levels of accessibility. With this perspective, this report provides both a micro and a macro strategic profile of men’s cosmetics and toiletries in Taiwan. It does so by compiling published information that directly relates to latent demand and accessibility, either at the micro or macro level. The reader new to Taiwan can quickly understand where Taiwan fits into a firm’s strategic perspective. In Chapter 2, the report investigates latent demand and micro-accessibility for men’s cosmetics and toiletries in Taiwan. In Chapters 3 and 4, the report covers proxy operating pro-forma financials and macro-accessibility in Taiwan. Macro-accessibility is a general evaluation of investment and business conditions in Taiwan. Read more...

Microbial Quality Assurance in Pharmaceuticals, Cosmetics, and Toiletries (Gender, Change & Society)

Microbial Quality Assurance in Pharmaceuticals, Cosmetics, and Toiletries (Gender, Change & Society) Review

The importance of quality assurance in the production, storage and use of manufactured preparations is widely recognized. This book encapsulates the issues involved in the manufacture of non-steriles, such as creams, ointments, herbal remedies, shampoos, soaps and toiletry products (as opposed to sterile drugs and injectible products). Knowledge of the microbial limits is expanded, new standards are included, and coverage of the preservation issues of dosage forms is widened to include semi-solids and liquid preparations. This edition also contains new regulations regarding preservative efficacy testing and covers pharmacopoeial and industry regulations and guidelines. Rapid methods are also discussed, now more common in cosmetic and toiletry practice, in their pharmaceutical capacity. Read more...

Toiletries: Webster's Facts and Phrases

Toiletries: Webster's Facts and Phrases Review

Ever need a fact or quotation on "toiletries"? Designed for speechwriters, journalists, writers, researchers, students, professors, teachers, historians, academics, scrapbookers, trivia buffs and word lovers, this is the largest book ever created for this word. It represents a compilation of "single sentences" and/or "short paragraphs" from a variety of sources with a linguistic emphasis on anything relating to the term "toiletries," including non-conventional usage and alternative meanings which capture ambiguities. This is not an encyclopedic book, but rather a collage of statements made using the word "toiletries," or related words (e.g. inflections, synonyms or antonyms). This title is one of a series of books that considers all major vocabulary words. The entries in each book cover all parts of speech (noun, verb, adverb or adjective usage) as well as use in modern slang, pop culture, social sciences (linguistics, history, geography, economics, sociology, political science), business, computer science, literature, law, medicine, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and other physical sciences. This data dump results in many unexpected examples for "toiletries," since the editorial decision to include or exclude terms is purely a computer-generated linguistic process. The resulting entries are used under license or with permission, used under fair use conditions, used in agreement with the original authors, or are in the public domain. Read more...
